The Sun Light, based on an ancient Egyptian myth.
The journey that the Sun god Ra made each day was a perilous one, he would sail on his sun boat across the sky during the Egyptian day and during the Egyptian night he would journey through the land of the dead ruled by Osiris. He would be reborn each day and the final part of his rebirth was the most dangerous. He would have to battle the god of destruction, Apophis. The Egyptians believed that if Ra did not defeat the monster Apophis, it would swallow the sun and then consume the rest of the world and then the underworld. When Ra did defeat Apophis he would continue out of the underworld and morning would come. With this victory Ma'at the goddess of balance would return to the land.

The project that I designed is based on that very battle. The body of the lamp is made of glass and in the shape of an ostrich feather the personal symbol of Ma'at, the base is brushed brass made to look like sand and to link it to Egypt. The base represents Apophis, every time the lamp is turned on it represents the victory of Ra. The glass body of the lamp is hollow with an environmentally friendly bulb. When the lamp id turned on the bulb slowly turns on mimicking a sunrise.
Making more research into the lamp I realised this could help a group of people who suffer from SAD ( Seasonal Affective Disorder ). People who suffer from this are mostly people who either live in area's of the globe that get little sunlight or people who work long hours and don't get enough sunlight.
This lamp would be placed on a bedside table, but could be placed throughout the home.
I just hope that with this design it could bring just a little bit of light to people's lives.
