Seek the Possibility

My Story
Just like a snowflake not everyone is the same, with this in mind not everyone is suited to being a designer. In my three years as a design student ,empathy is one of the most important qualities that a designer should have, to be able to walk a mile in somebody else's shoes. When a challenge arises it is doubtful that two designers will have the same idea.
Each designer will have a different story, mine began during my Junior Cert (G.C.S.E equivalent) when I was 15 I had to design my project for woodwork. I decided on a cookery book stand that had the theme of chivalry. The main body was in the shape of a shield with my family crest burnt into the centre and a lance holding the shield upright. In my Leaving Cert (A level equivalent) when I was 17, I designed a jewelry box with the theme of ancient Egyptian mythology. The Eye of Horus (god of war) was burned onto the top, Thoth (god of wisdom), Isis (goddess of magic) and a scarab were burnt onto the sides. With these projects my interest in becoming a designer evolved.
One of my most exciting projects: The Portidesk .a.k.a. The Portable Workplace.
This project was designed by me to enable regular commuters to have a light yet solid workspace suitable for both pen and pencil as well as digital projects.
The exterior of the desk is walnut as it is aesthetically beautiful, lightweight and durable. The inside of the Portidesk is cushioned to protect screens and drives of tablets and/or laptops and other items that need to be carried with care. The cushion contains expanded polystyrene beads, the same filling as a bean bag, so that it moulds around the given item for example a laptop and thus offers a high degree of protection.
It can be carried like a briefcase, and opens to provide a solid surface
Using a ratchet mechanism, the same mechanism as an old desk chair to keep it open. It also can be placed in several different angles. This means it can be used on any mode of transport, on a table, or at home.
Substantial integrated hooks provide a way of stable working service in environments such as construction sites.
As seen in the main picture, the Portidesk can be collapsed and carried from destination to destination.
The honeycombed structure of the internal supports resulting in a high strength to weight ratio.
With this project I hope to show my passion as a Creative Designer.
